I was contacted by DVSL on 02084958734 and asked to confirm my name and address, as they had a letter for me.

I asked how they got my number, they got a bit flustered at this and dropped the name HFC which is a company I used to have dealings with many years ago.

I asked them to remove all my data from their systems and to provide me with their complaints procedure, HFC would have my address.

Did a bit more digging and they're associated with CapQuest.

If you're rang by this number don't answer, if you do ask them to remove your number from their systems and put the phone down.

Let's hope that they do so much "phishing" that they drown.

Wouldn't it be tragic if their 0800 number were somehow to be printed on several thousand postcards or slips of paper advertising a free trial sex call service, and the adverts found their way into porn magazines up and down the country?

They might even have to change their number(s).

Exactly so - and I had answered your query about CrapQuest's email address elsewhere.

                      What an excellent idea!

After all,my understanding( please advise if I`m wrong) is these "chasers" aren`t acting on behalf of the unpaid lender . In most instances the debt was sold onto another company hoping to profit from purchasing the rights to pursue the debtor using their own set of rules.
Perhaps something similar to the banking & insurance industry collapse ?

                        Re: Contacted by DVSL

                        Hi,

I have also been having problems with both DVSL and Capquest. Since I found this thread very useful in dealing with my own problems I decided to tack this post on the end as I believe it may help others.

About 2 years ago I decided to take out a new mobile phone contract which included a new phone number. Everything was fine until the end of last year when I started receiving mysterious phone calls, one of which was from 01252576422, which I later discovered was from Capquest. At the time, I phoned them back to find out who they were. When I realized it was a debt collection agency, I told them that I wasn't the person they were looking for and that seemed to be the end of it.

Then 2 months ago I had another phone call, this time from 01252576371. Research later indicated it was from DVSL. This time they left a voice mail so I decided to phone them back. I once again explained that I wasn't the person they were looking for, and suggested to them that their records were seriously out-of-date!

To try and prevent any more of these unsolicited phone calls, I decided to complain, but who to? On line research suggested that the only option was to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) so that is exactly what I did. I downloaded the complaint form from the ICO's website, since it appears that DVSL/Capquest were using both inaccurate and out-of-date information, which is a clear breach of the Data Protection Act, 1998. I also wrote a letter to both DVSL and Capquest's registered offices. These letters were sent by Recorded Delivery, did not include my name or address, but included my mobile phone number and the date and time that they had called and asked them to remove my phone number from their databases. I also told them that I had made a complaint to the ICO.

Well today, out of the blue, I had a letter from Capquest. It is simply addressed "Dear Sir/Madam", they can only have got my address from the ICO? Anyway, I now have it in writing that they will not be making any more phone calls to my mobile. But the most interesting part of the letter is that " I can confirm your mobile telephone number was supplied by a company named Data Discoveries."

                        http://www.datadiscoveries.com/home/

So basically, Capquest are blaming this other company for supplying them with incorrect information!

I haven't decided whether to take this further, and have a moan at Data Discoveries...

Anyway, I hope this information will be of use to others.

                        Eddie :-)
