  • Lowells calling from mobiles

As some of you may know Lowells have began calling people from mobile numbers. This means that when they contact you, your phone does not show up their '0113' number but comes up with a variety of mobile numbers that they seem to rotate (perhaps getting sick of caller blocking apps or people not answering landlines based in leeds?

Im hoping to list a few of the numbers that I know about here. Please feel free to add your own

    07527250739
    07527251082
    07527251183
    07837641477
    07837638455
    07837638740
    07837648768
    07837670369
    07837671756
    07837671922

If you receive a call from a mobile phone with the prefix 07527 or 07837 that you are not expecting, probably a good idea to let it go to voicemail and see if the person leaves a message.

I've said it before and will say it again, just buy an 087 number account from someone like FlexTel and feed that number to the DCAs and lenders. Then change your own landline number and never get pestered again. All calls to the fictitious 087 number are routed to FlexTel's computer which emails details of the call to the 087 number and records any messages which you can listen to on your PC. No need for a telephone or phone line. Its all electronic.

    See this link for info

Services - What are Flexible Numbers? - About Flexible numbers

all the free numbers appear to have been taken up But I see that there are some still going for just £7.

You earn commission on calls to the 087 number from FlexTel and if the DCAs are dumb enough to call an 087 number from a cell fone then hell, they deserve to be fleeced don't they?

Thats a good idea :-) Make money from them!

However in my case, I have not given any DCA any of my numbers. The only thing lowells call me for is the thing i outlined in my 'lowells little april fool' thread which is from an account that is about 12 years old. Ive only had my current mobile number for the last 18 months since coming back from the states, so they could not have obtained the number from their client.

The only people who have my current mobile number are current creditors (none of which have ever fallen into arrears, let alone gone to a DCA). Im very wary of who gets my number, I don't give it out on websites when signing up for things, its only ever been work, my bank and 5 creditors who have that number (excluding my family - who never give my number out). The credit check services I use from the CRA's do not have that number at all (they have a forwarding number I use, similar to what you suggest, but its a 020 number). On top of that, the mobile contract is in my wifes name, not mine.

Id be interested to know how they managed to find it. It means someone somewhere is sharing my personal data without permission.

I honestly dont know. The mobile phone is not even an account in my name so id be surprised if they were sharing what is officially my wifes 'personal data' with a 3rd party company looking to get in touch with me. I think we will never know the answer as I doubt somehow Lowells are going to tell me.

It could be any of my 5 creditors or my bank. Unless the phone company shared details of all numbers at this address, but in which case why are they (lowells) not phoning the other mobile numbers my wife holds contracts for. That leads me to think that someone who has that mobile number associated with my name (the bank or the 5 creditors) who has shared it.

I have a PAYG sim card purely for the official organisations. It is only ever on when I choose and my "real" number is given to nobody other than those I trust.

Shamen, have you ever phoned Lowells from your mobile and not blocked your caller ID? If you have, that's where they will have gotten your number from, if it showed up at their end when you made the phone call. My golden rule is to always make sure I hide my caller ID, but it's easy to forget to do it. And I always forget to change it back, so my OH won't answr when I phone him as he doesn't answer the phone to blocked numbers lol.

Have you looked at 192.com. It is my understanding that even some x directory numbers had made their way onto 192's data base.

I dont know if t his is still true but there used to be two levels of ex-directory numbers with BT. The first level simply removed your number from the printed and cd directory but it could be obtained from directoy enqurieery if people asked . the other removed it entirely .
