  • Cashoomoney.co.uk Scam

i have been scammed by a company called cashoomoney.co.uk. i part filled in an application online for a small payday loan of £100, i did not take the loan as the rates were simply too high. then a week later they took £74.79 out of my account without my consent. i only realised they had taken it when i went to the cashpoint to withdraw my rent and didnt have enough in there, so i went to my bank to get a statement and was shocked when i saw the transaction. my bank say there is nothing they can do in regards to a chargeback because they are a loan company and they do not have a number to be contacted on, it just an answering machine. i have emailed them and had back a generic e-mail telling me they are dealing with my query. there must be something i can do to recover this money. from other forums it doesnt look like i am the first one for this to happen to, see the link below.

I don't know whether this is relevant, but having just looked at their website I notice they are an American company trading online. Would this mean they are governed by American law or would it come under British law as they offer loans in GB?

      Hi Caspar,

I'm not sure, but I think that anyone offering loans by way of business is required to notify, & register with, the FSA.
Failure to do so is a criminal offense.

What about being regulated by the OFT as well?

Does that mean that your bank believes there should be honour between thieves? :tinysmile_grin_t:

Whatever that company might be, it is not a loan company.

I can think of a number of descriptions of them that are rather uncomplimentary and some of which might be grossly libellous if they were physically possible, but I shall content myself here by declaring that they appear to be a somewhat overpriced loan brokerage company that, although it has an office in the UK, does not appear to have a consumer credit licence.

and they do not have a number to be contacted on, it just an answering machine.
They claim to have a UK postal address, which you should use to cancel your "membership" before they grab any more money from your account.

i have emailed them and had back a generic e-mail telling me they are dealing with my query.
Write to them, at CashooMoney.co.uk, 1 Liverpool Street, London, EC2M 7QD

As I would not trust them any further than I could hurl them from an averagely sized trebuchet, all correspondence sent to them should use a signed-for service: Recorded Delivery at the least, though Special Delivery would be better.

there must be something i can do to recover this money. from other forums it doesnt look like i am the first one for this to happen to
If you do not wish to sue those colonial "gentlemen", the only other way to recover any monies from them would seem to be to go to Delaware, haul the CEO up by his ankles and shake until the money falls from his pockets.

Credit brokerage firms certainly should be, but this lot do not seem to hold any licence from the OFT - not even one of the licences that some say were given away free with packets of cornflakes.

              Update:

They have now been reported to Consumer Direct, who have contacted their local Trading Standards wallahs.
