  • PRA Group claiming on a debt I believe I paid already

This is all rather confusing to me, but I'll try to keep things as clear and simple as possible.

On 30 Jul 2019, I defaulted on a Barclaycard account. This occurred at address A. I moved to address B in in September of 2020.

In 2023 I started getting chased by Resolvecall Ltd for the debt, and 16 February 2023 I set up a debt management plan with the Debt Management Service to pay this back. The debt was then passed to Intrum, and DMC confirmed my payments would now be made to them.

I moved to address C in September 2024.

In December 2024 I closed my DMC debt plan, made my final payment direct to Intrum and confirmed closure there too.

Today, I received a letter from PRA Group citing a CCJ in their favour.

When logging in to my account on the PRA website, I can see that this debt is for Barclaycard. I also checked my credit report and sure enough, it shows a CCJ filed 29 Dec 2020. I never received notification of this, and assume it went to address A whilst I was residing at address B.

I have only ever had one Barclaycard, and the dates here align with that one card. So if I paid this via Intrum, how can I still be liable with PRA Group, and why is this the first time I have ever received anything from them?

    Hi ELGYNSTOY

    Welcome to LB

First thing to do is send the following letter to dispute the debt, that way they will stop hassling and give you time to 'nail' down exactly what's happened. Clearly amend it, if you need to. Make sure you get Proof of Postage.

    https://nationaldebtline.org/get-inf...-not-owe-debt/

You need to send Subject Access Request to Barclaycard, PRA and Intrum. Make sure you get Proof of Postage.

    https://legalbeagles.info/library/gu...ccess-request/

As soon as you know what's transpired, you can approach PRA seek their consent to have the CCJ set aside. You need to do this as soon as you've found out exactly what has transpired. This will also assist with the removal from your credit file.

You maybe due compensation if PRA etc has made an error, i.e. chasing you for money you don't owe, putting a CCJ on your credit file which has a direct impact on your ability to get credit etc.

What I think might of happened, is that somewhere a file / account hasn't been closed, Barclaycard then sold the debt to PRA.

      Thank you echat11 !

For a SAR with Barclaycard, will I need to provide an account/card number? I no longer have any idea what this was, unfortunately.

Your address at the time the account was opened should be sufficient.

Apologies if this is a dumb question, but in this part:

"I have no knowledge of any such debt being owed to [enter company name]"

Am I entering Barclaycard, or PRA Group?
