  • ACI chasing a 20+ year old debt

Good evening I’m hoping someone will be able to help me

I had a letter from ACI around a month ago chasing an old debt for just over £1000 from the late 90s early 00s

Not acknowledged or made payments/contact over nothing since then.

A couple of weeks ago received another (undated) letter saying that Verify ( part of the same company I assume) will visit to try and figure out if it’s me I guess

The past couple of days I had a hand delivered letter from them

    blah blah delivered by verify

    need to speak to you

you can set up payment plan

may send another agent or assess account for litigation

Now the annoying thing is I watched them (from work) on the camera asking my neighbours if X X lived here!

    Is that even allowed?

My OH is furious as it relates to debt which all of those years ago was with a previous partner

Although the purchase at the time was no doubt something for me.

Do I need to worry here?

Any advice appreciated of course, I do see similar threads but unsure on my best course

    Thanks

    Plodder

    Hi Plodder

    Welcome to LB

If no payments to acknowledgement of the debt has been made in the last 6 years, then the debt is statute barred (providing there is no CCJ).

Send ACI the following letter, make sure you get Proof of Postage.

    https://legalbeagles.info/forums/for...ed-debt-letter

You could also lodge a complaint with ACI regards 'Now the annoying thing is I watched them (from work) on the camera asking my neighbours if X X lived here!'

But you need to find out what was said, they shouldn't reveal who they are and any details to do with your debt. There are Rules that govern debt collection activity.

Follow the complaints procedure on their website.

Update when you get a response.

There were two instances. One I have on video with sound where the individual stopped a car and clearly asked “do you know if a X X lives there (pointing at my house). Then can be heard at a neighbours house

You need to make your complaint with evidence. You'll need more then they asked 'where you live?'
That question a friend could ask if they weren't sure where you lived.

Send it to their registered office (you could send the letter to both locations).

                Good news from me

                received a letter from ACI.

We have reviewed your account and can confirm it is statute barred blah blah

we have updated our records accordingly

the account has been closed and returned to intrum U.K. finance Ltd

you will no longer receive communication from us regarding this matter.

thank you so much to everyone
