  • Resolvecall - Doorstep Visit - Old debt, almost statute barred?

    Hi there,

I had a doorstep visit from a representative from Resolvecall yesterday. Fortunately I wasn't home but he pushed a note through the door asking me to contact head office to discuss my account. I have looked through my files and can see that this relates to an old debt that I'd struggled with when I went through a break up at my previous address. They appear to have tracked me down to my new address and, as I've been burying my head in the sand ever since and ignoring all letters, have now decided to send someone to my door... My partner has no idea I have this debt so I'm worried sick that they'll call again. Is there any way I can stop them from calling at my home again? I'm not sure if this helps in any way but I have not made payment to them in over 6 years but did write to them in July 2017 to say I was in financial difficulty. I have not acknowledged the debt in any way since then so need to be very careful in how I manage this next step. Your help and advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your reply Mike. That's reassuring to hear. I really hope they don't return but I'm anxious and wondering what would be best to say if they did turn up again? I desperately want to hold them off somehow but don't want to risk acknowledging it in some way, particularly with it being so close to the 6 year mark..

When was the last payment made? Has the debt ever been acknowledged in writing?

Not yet, on the timings stated in post #1.

Careful any letters wording might start the clock again. Personally I would hold out till August this year unless they try their chances at the last minute meantime details debt lady payment acknowledgement ?

The thing is they (debt collectors) will pop up when least expected, if the OP wants to get some control over it, stop the randomness, then make some sort of contact, ideally stop the 'harassment', door collectors, phone calls etc.

The last payment was made in 2016 but I did acknowledge the debt in writing in July 2017. I've made no further contact since then.

Just manage them the best you can to keep them at distance, see what else they do, just tell your partner it was an oversight on your part, just say it was a 'hectic' time. I doubt he / she will 'bat an eye lid'. Just keep on updating the thread. Have a read of the following: they've already broken 7.9.14 Consumer Credit Sourcebook.

There seems to be last minute office activity from these people a few months before statute barred in the hope you panic and the statute barred limit broken, Keep a lookout on the post etc with the threatograms, with last minute offers etc. then report back here if they should contact again? do not speak to them. Their systems used are like a repeat book as we have found out for decades trying to assist peeps.

Sorry to hop on this post but I've just received a letter from Cabot Financial saying that they've passed the debt on to Resolvecall. Had a text a week ago saying They'l bopping round to do a house call.... I ignored it. This debt is for an Argos card back in 2012 which is when the last payment was made so I know its statue barred. Is it worth a letter requesting the original contract or just ignoring. Luckily this debt cleared off my credit report after 6 years and if I remember correctly they can not re add an old debt?
