  • LCS - British Gas

Hi - looking for some advice

Father in Law back in May received a letter from British Gas requesting payment for an outstanding debt. It had his name & address etc. but he hasn't been with BG for over 8 years, he contacted them and confirmed it was a mistake and was actually for Plot 2 not his actual address. (In April 3 new houses were built behind his and were given plot 1,2,3 for the properties until built and now are number 20-24 P...and he lives at 26 P...)

End of June he received another letter and he contacted them again and again they confirmed their mistake and said they would update the records.

End of August he received a letter from LCS acting on behalf of BG to collect the debt. He contacted BG who again said it wasn't his debt but LCS are still pursuing him. He spoke to BG today who are now stating the debt is for the previous owner and saying he failed to notify them when he moved in to the property - he bought the house 28 years ago...

BG are of no help and LCS will only seek to claim the debt and not engage otherwise.

It is making him ill to the point he has missed a few days at work due to the stress caused.

    Any advice greatly appreciated

To take the complaint to the Services Ombudsman, you will need a final response from British Gas.

Write a Formal Letter of Complaint, explain why British Gas are wrong, explain the effects on your dad of the 'harassment' and what you want them to do, stop doing it and compensate your dad for the stress caused to him by their 'harassment'.

Email via their complaints page - https://www.britishgas.co.uk/complaints.html

If they don't resolve the matter to your dads satisfaction, then lodge a complaint with the Services Ombudsman - https://www.ombudsman-services.org/

Here's a case British Gas were involved in (posted for information) - https://www.5rb.com/case/ferguson-v-...s-trading-ltd/
