  • i have a question

i have a friend who had a debt with barclays and was passed on to debt recovery i think it was a loan or credit card not sure he has recently wrote to them asking for the debt to be written off, now the good news is that they aggreed and have written of his debt.

now would it still be possible to claim any kind of charges or ppi on the debt or would it not be worth doing knowing he has had his debt written of?

now I may be wrong here but this is my take on it, if the debt has been written off then he hasn't paid it so how could he ask for something he hasn't paid. Just my opinion and as I said before I could be wrong.:tinysmile_hmm_t2:

What you really need to know is the sums involved here. How much was the loan/credit card? How much was written off? How much are the charges and how much is the PPI?

Have they actually written it off or merely passed it to a DCA?

I have heard of debts being written off, and then someone putting in a claim for charges a few months later. Barclaycard paid the charges into the account that was written off and refused to give the refund by cheque. It's an awkward one, how much are you looking at in charges?

I believe if he was successful in reclaiming, they would simply swallow them back to pay off the written off debt and if there was anything left, repay that to him.

I agree you need more info on whether this isjust "written off" or passed on.

And it would depend on whether the mis-sold PPI is more than the written off debt.

More info if it is available ?
