  • goldfish card from over 6 years ago - to claim or not to claim?

i had a Goldfish card from the late 90's which defaulted around 2002 and i was chased for around 1 year by various DCAs. Then it went quiet and i've not heard anything since then. I didn't even get a default on my credit files for this account. The balance was over £5k.

when i started my claims in 2007, i didn't request any charges/PPI refunds on this card because i wanted to let sleeping dogs lie, as the saying goes, but i also didn't know who to claim from as it got bought and sold by Centrica/Lloyds/Morgan Stanley etc.

it's been over 6 years since i made any payment to this account or very nearly is.

should i now reclaim the charges and PPI or let them go and if i do, what can happen? can the balance be resurrected with someone?

obviously at this moment it's Barclaycard and previously they've paid well with my Providian claim.

i'm posting on Barclaycard section because they now own the brand, previously it was with Lloyds and Morgan Stanley and Centrica but i got it from HFC in the late 90's.

    thanks.

To be honest I can't see why you would even think about claiming any charges back here. Apart from the fact that it's over 6 yearsd old and has now disappeared into infinity, you state yourself that you defaulted, got chased, never paid anything sionce 2002 or thereabouts, didn't get a default or anything else, so basically you got away with not paying over 5k. Aside from all that, do you really think that if by some miracle they rolled over and decided to pay back your charges, that they wouldn't use them to reduce the (still outstanding) 5k balance? They are hardly likely to send you a cheque out when by your own admission you owed them 5k, are they? They are more likely to say oops, we forgot you, can you please pay up.

It seems to me that as the debt is well statute barred by now, you would be best to leave sleepings dogs lie, rather than attempting to have your cake and eat it.

      thanks wendyb,

points noted. This is why i asked and why i haven't reclaimed charges/PPI up to now, since i started all my others in 2007 but left this one because i wasn't too sure.
