  • Using credit cards

Hello, I have two credit cards and are both on 0 balance as I pay them in full. However I only use them in emergencies. IS this going against me in my credit file? Is it better for me to use them regularly and paying them in full to improve my credit or better to keep using them only in emergencies so I am not using all my available credit. It is all a bit confusing.

A 'credit file' isn't everything, the last thing you want to do is 'expose' yourself to 'unnecessary' spending and get into debt.

This page on Experian might help.

How Do Credit Cards Work? | A Guide to Credit Cards | Experian

Note: "...if you pay your bill on time and in full each month and keep well within your credit limit, this will show you can manage your money well and will raise your credit score".

So generally speaking lenders like to see a regular history of paying your CC bill every month rather than a a card which is never used (presumably because a never used card tells them nothing about your reliability in paying your debts each month. But that's not the whole story - read the full article. You also don't want to use up the maximum available credit limit nor only make minimum payements. And Echat11's point too.
All opinions expressed are based on my personal experience. I am not a lawyer and do not hold any legal qualifications.
