Advice on an old debt

In 2016 lowell took court action on a (I think) catalogue debt, I sent cca request and a few other letter which I can’t really remember but I was told it was basically dropped so I hadn’t heard anything since august 2016. Now I recently was paying capital one an agreed amount and they have since sold the debt to Lowell, I’m happy to keep paying my payment and it’s only a small amount owed BUT they have now stated sending letters for the 2016 debt and it’s doubled!! Any advise on what to do.
I should add that even though they doubled it they are offering to let me pay just half.

Did you receive Court Claim? or was it a threat of taking legal action? I think it might be the latter, so might be statute barred.

I believe it was a court claim, I remember waiting over a month and not hearing anything so phoned the court who told me I could forget it.
