  • CRA and Electoral Roll

We have just registered with Experian to see what our Credit Score was like.

The Experian report states that we are not on the Electoral Roll - when we definitely are.

On phoning them they checked their copy of the ER and agreed that we were in fact on it - but that the address details were not in line so the computer says "no".

Our village is listed as a street or some-such nonsense. We live in a rural area with no street address.

We called our council who said they could do nothing about it. As far as we are concerned the address on the ER is correct and it is Experian's address matching logic that is at fault.

What is the best next step? Can I take action against Experian under the Data Protection Act to get their system changed to recognise that we are on the ER? I believe that failing to be on the ER has a detrimental effect on our credit rating - is this right? Could I prove financial loss?

Why does it matter if they say you are or are not on the electoral roll(out of curiosity)?

Because, if one is not on the electorial roll, one is considered a second rate applicant!

They are holding incorrect information about you.

The DPA 1998 has eight fundamental principles. I think it's no 4 that states All data held shall be accurate... These principles are enforceable in law.

get hold of the Data Controller at Equifax and tell him/her that if the data is not corrected now s/he knows it is inaccurate you will be taking him to court or taking further action - depends how strongly you want to word it.

Is Ted your other name? Perhaps advice to OP might be a better option rather than answering a question not intended for you(just a idea ).

            Lerclerc, you asked the question!

May I suggest that Ted, obtains a letter from his council stating that he is indeed listed on the Electorial Roll.
