Is anyone else having problems with Recorded Delivery? Despite the postal strikes being over, I am still getting my letters marked as "Item XXX was posted at XXX on XXX and is being progressed through our network for delivery." in their on line Track and Trace system.

Periods now run from several days to a month!

Is Special Delivery the only option now?

    Welcome to VIP..

I really don't know the answer - can you phone up Royal Mail and ask why?
From my experiemce many times times I have sent items by recorded delivery and the web site is not always updated. I think it is a sham that you pay the extra for a service and they do not provide it.

I have recently posted 3 items via recorded delivery. The first to Black Horse in Cardiff was on 29/10/2009 and is still in the system somewhere.I have also sent 2 items recorded 1 to HSBC in Woking and 1 to Black Horse Cardiff on 13/11/2009 and both have been delivered 14/11/2009.

All you need is a Certificate of Posting, which is free. There is no need to send these letters recorded.

Hi folks and thanks for the input. I guess it's just me being hyper sensitive about having everything necessary to show without doubt that letters have not only been sent, but received at the other end.

I understand lots of mail goes missing every day - even in normal times - and got worse during the recent postal strikes. I certainly have had mail sent to me recently that has never arrived at all.

It just seems very odd to me that these days, a simple certificate of posting is sufficient to assume a letter has arrived ok!

If it helps, Ive found that some RD letters where theres no online delivery confirmation have infact been deliverd. Also I sometime put on letters (the letter not the envelope!) Sent Redorded delivery and Standard Post. Then I do send two copies of the letter. im hyper sensitive too!

You don't need to prove they have received it, you simply need to be able to prove you posted it.

This is not a new thing. See CPR Part 6.3.

This is one of my bugbears on this site! I posted specifically on the issue not long ago and can't find the thread to refer you to.

What it said was that Recorded Delivery is not guaranteed by the PO to be delivered. Full stop. The only way to be sure is Special Delivery. You can claim compensation if RD letters are not signed for, but in reality big corporations get so much post each day that ofte RD letters are just lumped in with the pile.

As Amy quite correctly points out all you need is proof of pstage and this costs nothing, so save your money!
