  • Me vs Cabot

i recently paid of a 4 figure debt with cabot that had been registered as a default on my account.

    the original creditor was Barclays.

i was initially after them because although it has now been 2 months since the debt was cleared they refuse to class the default as satisfied.

fobbing me off with one story or another all to the tune of "it is currently being processed".

according to my experian credit file i originally defaulted in 2006 but do not recall receiving a default notice from barclays.

before paying off cabot i received daily and sometimes multiple calls per day and threatening letters, but as i am also chronically disorganised i have not kept letters or noted times or dates.

i am now wondering if there is anyway to request them to remove this default completely even though it is paid off?

please help as i currently have two defaults and although now debt free, have no hope of obtaining new credit such as a mortgage.

i feel very annoyed that i only had the sense to look for help after giving these vultures my money, but i felt vaguely better that i ensured they were the last to get paid as they were the most irritating.

    please help

Cabot will not remove the default, but they will need to mark it as satisfied.

Complain to the CRA's. Tell them that whilst you realise that they will have to contact Cabot to verify that the default is satisfied, you are giving them 28 days notice after which you will raise the issue with the ICO.

Don't even bother informing Cabot. They have long ago lost the right to be treated with any sort of civility.
