    Re: FINES

I wonder if he is as willing to fine Alistair Darling for not reducing the 70% tax levy he imposes on the cost of fuel too?

For every £1.00 spent at the pump approximately 70p of that cost is imposed due to taxes set by the Chancellor and the Government. ANY reduction given to that amount would be welcomed by the UK public in difficult times such as these.

I work for a transport company that runs a fleet of heavy goods vehicles and even a 1% drop in that duty would save my employer over £500 per week.

For larger companies, take for example the supermarket chains, running a fleet of thousands of vehicles, imagine the savings that would present to them. The knock on effect of such levels of fuel costs are reflected in Joe Public's grocery bill at the checkouts.

The effect of such high pump prices affect people much more than when they fill up their own vehicles, it affects the prices of almost everything we buy in the shops.
