hsbc passing bank details to marlinto set up direct debit!

Letter saying small debt been paying for years passed to Marlin BUT also giving Marlin my Bank details so they can set up a direct debit. Surely this is illegal and they said I dont need to authorise direct debit!

Have cancelled d/d to HSBC but who can I report this to?

If you have not set up the DD with marlin they should not be able to take money.

Have they taken any money from you?

From whom did the letter come?
How have you been paying this debt?
