If here is so much money at stake and it appears from your post you are well off why are you not seeking advice from a specialist solicitor with so much to win or lose that would make sense.
As a Hater of Banks I would like to see you win but feel that its a difficult and complex case that will take tine Money and effort to resolve.

Am quoting the last post you made simply for ease of reference. Have you approached the bank? Have you made a formal complaint to the bank over the matter and what has been the response to yourself so far?

As I assume that you have a personal manager then we are talking about a HSBC Premium or even Private manager, ie a person with assets of either 100k+ or £250k+.

Depending on the banks' response will depend on the advice given but if the losses are in the millions then I suspect that the advice should be to consult your solicitor in this regards if you are looking at litigating with the bank due to the amount of damages that you believe have been caused by their negligence.

Yes this is a HSBC Premier and I have been in communication with them. The initial response from them was very apologetic, they accepted the card had been block when it shouldn't have been. I then start having problems where HSBC insists the debit card works and I'm telling them it doesn't and the damage they are causing. A month later HSBC then accept the card was still blocked and have since ignored all correspondence.

Yes, agreed, a solicitor is needed but I would like the forums opinion on damages and remoteness.

If this went before a Judge you would have to prove that there was a genuine loss and claim a sum for damages the Bank may at the outset offer something a few hundred maybe they will defend this with high paid legal people you would be in a weak position unless you had the same .
Remember in this country banks get away with most things

I would be legally naive to suggest an opinion on damages but I do think that you should formally write to your premium manager explaining the chronology of the case and the losses you have incurred plus the embarrassment caused by the fact that the card was blocked when clear instructions were on file about this. I would suggest threatening them with taking your business and more importantly your money elsewhere(I would probably suggest a letter to the Chief Executive Office of HSBC Bank in London. Do not mention a solicitor in the correspondence but say that you would like them to suggest a solution so that you can consider whether you stay with them or ditch them(if you have been with them awhile and have other products with them then that is a potential bargaining tool ).
