    Re: Nat West Refund

Yes did I phone brummie as you suggested and it did not sound like a banks answering machine message at all. I really feel it may be a scam, so I would be very warry and only deal with your local branch and ask them if this is genuine. It is a worry when they ask for your bank details which they have anyway. I will try if I can during the day if I have time hun and sus it out. The address may not be genuine either maybe Leclerc can check that out for us or phone Natwet Head office and ask if that address is part of their banking organisation.

called the number this morning and spoke to Ben in the customer refund team.... i think you need to write to them and request they demonstrate how they have acheived these figures.

            Re: Nat West Refund

Ive just called this number to ask what the refund is about, he said it was a system error between the 6th March 2006 - 16th March 2006 of which i was wrongly billed £38 twice for unpaid items.
It seems strange why it should only be for 10 days in 2006 this would work out about right when i was having my biggest problems with them.

              Re: Nat West Refund

I was working for the bank during this period, I have to admit that I do not remember any major natwest bank issues at that time. I wonder whether they have got any wind of any legal developments that might have been the reason for this. Hmmmm, very interesting....

Do you think I should accept the refund? Or pry a little deeper?

I would never look a gift horse in the mouth so I would be accepting the money, personally. If you have access to your bank account statements with NW then you can have a look what they are talking about and whether they applied a different charge at the time that is mentioned.....

                    Re: Nat West Refund

It just bugs me that they charged over 2500 pounds in these kind of charges so I'd like to know what they did wrong between the 6th and the 16th March 2006.

                      Re: Nat West Refund

Hi FP. Sorry I didn't look in on this earlier. Assuming the £76.00 to be wrongly debited charges, then they would attract account interest at whatever rates were being charged throughout the whole period that this account was active. If you were paying the unauthorised o/d rate, then that may well have been something like 30% compounded daily. If we assume that the account was frozen or closed in 2011, then VERY ROUGHLY, that o/d interest would have accrued over a 5 year period, and should come to approx. £260.

ADDITIONALLY, you should be entitled to 8% Statutory Interest at 8% simple on the erroneous charges, AND on the debited account interest. Again, roughly, this might be approx. £120.

So, it would seem to me that they owe you approx. £76 + £260 + £120 = £456.

I would be very interested to know how they calculated the interest to be just £13.65 !!!

Hmmmm, thanks Bill, thats very interesting. Maybe i should give them a ring tomorrow and ask how they have worked out the interest?
