  • Money taken from bank account - help please

My daughter has had various large amounts of money taken from her bank account which she only discovered today. When we obtained a statement her withdrawal limit has been pushed to the max over a number of days. She has no knowledge of these transactions.
We have rung both the bank and police and neither will help us. The bank say her pin was used and the card so they wont do anything as this card can not be cloned. The police say it is up to the bank to investigate and any card can be cloned.
These evil people left my daughter with only 17p in her account when she had been saving for her first car.
My daughter never writes down the pin and I can only think one of her "friends" has memorised the pin number and stolen the card over a period of time and then replaced it in her purse. but what can we do when no-one will help us?

If she has not already done so, she needs to open a new bank account and transfer all DD's and SO's to the new account.

Which bank was it and do you have the T&C'sof the account. The behaviour you have experienced so far is deplorable and I would go straight to the Chief Executive Officer with a complaint about this. If youpost up the name of the bank, I can give you the e-mail address to complain to.

Ask the bank to provide the date and time and location of each and every transaction on the account(That is disputed).
A couple of questions: did she have the card on her on all occasions? Does she know where the card is today? Have the card been cancelled and a new card ordered(that saves the need to change bank and the bank should be able to open a brand new account for her if she explains what has happened to her)?

The card is in her possesion and she believes it has always been in her possession but she recently stayed at a friends. she drew some money out when her friend was with her one day although she shielded her pin (or thought so) and the money starting getting taken out later that day. she does not know when the card has been taken...on one of the days she was out of town and the card was usedin our town. my thoughts are that if it cant be cloned, has her "friend" has taken it out of her purse; emptied her account over so many days and then replaced it. My daughter only uses it one a week. but if the police wont help and the bank wont what can we do...

Have the bank provided you with exact locations and times when they went out of the account, and I do not mean a statement of account but the EXACT location, for example date/time/location ie high street, london(bad example).

No; they refused today saying it was too early for this information although the first transaction was Tuesday. All they kept saying was the card and PIN was used; nothing to do with us.

There you go - as promised. Once complaints hit the executive's office they tend to get resolved faster. I hope you find this to be the case.

That is rubbish if the transaction has already debited the account.

Have they even suggested that the card be cancelled or can they not even be bothered with the basics?

No: they have not even suggested cancelling the card or even changing the PIN. Although I have never been in this situation before I did think this would be the first advice given. They seem totally unwilling to help. Thank you for the chief executives email: I will email him now.
