  • Lloyds packaged account fees.....an element of success!

    Hi all,

Bit late in the day as this one is all done & dusted, but thought I should share it as it might inspire others to give it a try

A few weeks back I was looking through some old statements and it suddenly dawned on me that -

    a) we'd never actually asked for our account to be 'upgraded' from silver to platinum etc etc

    b) we'd not really made use of the 'benefits' of these packaged accounts as we already had similar cover elsewhere.

So I wrote a brief letter explaining this to LTSB who whilst they weren't prepared to refund all the fees charged over the years, did offer a refund of one year's worth of packaged account fees............which we accepted as to be honest I wasn't expecting to get anywhere with this one

I should add that whilst there don't seem to be many packaged account fee refund success stories out there, those I have come across seem to be where the customer was elderly or otherwise unable to make use of the account 'benefits', but in the case of Mr Wops and myself we don't fit that pattern and therefore hopefully this should encourage others to have a go at reclaiming these inflated fees

you're only the second case I have heard of on the forums but as you can imagine, I know that you can do this and I have got a guide somewhere on the forum for doing this. Excellent excellent news. Some firms will offer a years fees which can be anything from £100-£200 refund which as you said, may not sound much but is very much preferred.

EDIT: in fact here is the guide I made Accounts with extras: do you have a case to reclaim some of the fees? - Legal Beagles Consumer Forum

      Good for you Nelliewops

I have to give Lloyds a pat on the back about my partners account and say the branch staff here were excellent........she had a platinum account but of late it went down ,,,,she did not notice as she had had it for years...........it cost quite a bit but gave higher interest on her savings account which also has nearly gone.

Friday on her own authority her account manager said ....you have been a customer of Lloyds a long time and I've been hecking your account.....you are paying way too much in charges.....I'm changing it to a premier account .......and then knocked off a load of fees charges etc etc......nearly £200 worth....... this new account will save her some £38 per month......plus saved her another £17 a month on Buildings insurance by changing it to Lloyds from Santander

So Got to pat Lloyds on the back for once........all branches should be this helpful IMO.

Thanks Leclerc Actually I should have given you the credit for this win, as I believe it was your guide which inspired me.........although it was some time ago that I remember originally reading it, something had stayed in the back of my mind and I thought 'hell, why not give it a try'
