  • Once again Lloyds find a way to screw those in debt

spoke to the collections department at Lloyds to reset the payment arrangement on my overdaft.

    I AM ABSOLUTELY FUMING!!

THEY NOW CHARGE CUSTOMERS THAT ARE IN COLLECTIONS A £5 MONTHLY FEE FOR THE PRIVALEGE OF BEING IN HARDSHIP!!!!

THIS IS BEING CHARGED TO ALL THOSE WHO TAKE RESPONSIBILLITY BY MAKING AN ARRANGEMENT TO PAY THEIR DEBT WITH THE BANK

Has anyone heard of this before?

    Hiya

And no not heard of this yet, must be a new thing.
Have you had anything in writing?

I understand where there are arrangements where £1 monthly token payments are arranged, these are reviewed every 6 months, so how do they expect customers to find the extra fiver a month?

I would ask for this in writing, and see if they come back with anything.

      Hi di30,

      Thanks for your reply,

I asked when this started and he (some guy in a foriegn call centre) said that it started last September and was allpart of the new charging structure that LLoyds sent out then....

      Well I haven't had anything!!

When I asked for him to send me a copy of this letter I was supposed to have had he said he didn't have the option to do so and that I should ask in branch. Whemn I did they knew nothing about it and didn't have anything I could see about the new charging structure..

This bank used to be a good one, when I opend my account over a quarter of a century ago but now I think they are probaly the lowest of the low!!

Oh and another thing when I called them to reset my payment arrangement at first he told me that as it wasn't the 1st time there was nothing that he could do for me and that "collection is only for short term help only" and that I should "contact a debt management company for help not the bank"....WTF!!!

He soon chganged his tune when I pointed out that the entirity of the overdraft was made up of charges and that my benefit had been paid in this morning and that they had now robbed me of the money that the Governmenthad given me to allow m,e to eat and heat my home...

Sorry for the rant but it really does make my blood boil...

        Hi there

I must admit, I have had some issues with them as well, where they were not understanding when we fell into difficulties back some time ago.

We did get advice from the CCCS a free debt organisation, and was advised to open a new bank account elsewhere that are not related to the bank, so we opened a new account with the Co op and we have everything, like all the direct debits and the income being paid into that account now.
Its the best thing we have done, and we now know where we are.

If they have been taking any money from your benefits, I would write to them and make a complaint on this and tell them you have to live on this and ask that they refund you as soon as possible.

They seem to have a law of their own.

Not sure I will be able to get another account anywheer because of my credit rating....But need to look into it as I will be starting Uni in September and really do not want Lloyds to have any control over my student loan money!!

The Co op are pretty lenient, if you just need a standard account with no overdraft you should be ok.
A friend of mine who i helped recently does not have a very good credit rating and Co op did accept him, he also moved from lloyds Tsb, apparently they told him they have loads that have had problems with lloyds and have been in hardship.
It may be worth a try, and it will be like a heavy weight lifted.

And because my friend only received benefits, after sending them a letter, within 2 weeks, they refunded him for the trouble.

Have a think about it if you want to, its nice to be in control again.

I shall be back at some point tomorrow.

As Di has suggested, the Co-op are pretty good with current accounts. They have a product called a CashMinder account. You can do everything you would be able to do with a normal account (SO, DD, use a cashcard etc), but the only thing it will not give you is an overdraft.

There is no credit check and the account is a basic bank account.

Like you, my credit history means that I cannot open another conventional bank account, but I wanted an account through which I could pay in my business expenses and also pay out from there as well. I wanted to keep business expenses separate from my main account so that I always know how much money I have for myself. The Co-op enabled me to open a CashMinder account for this very purpose. You can also manage the CashMinder account online.

Check it out by going to the Co-op website and give them a call explaining your circumstances.

There are now part of Lloyds Banking Group so connected.

The £5 thingy is something that was not announced in September and AFAIK applies to all customers both within and outside of the arranged overdraft. They first charged the amount in January, if memory serves me right.

The above is the press release but it does in my mind certainly make me wonder whether the practice is perhaps harsh on customers in financial difficulty and already within a payment plan because you are already paying interest.
