  • HSBC CC/ppi

Hello all I am wondering if anyone has this same problem. From August 2009 to February 2010 I was unemployed (I am self-employed but no work) I decided to claim on my cc ppi.The forms were sent , I filled them in , sent last 6 months bank statements etc. (I had to do this twice as they had apparently lost the first lot - even though both times were sent recorded and signed for) I had requested a new PIN for this card as could not remember the old one has had not used the card for many months.I have now received a letter from HSBC stating the account is closed by their records and they could not supply a new PIN. Now I have made the usual telephone calls to their 08457 numbers and got to talk to someone somewhere the other side of the world who has informed me that the account was closed as soon as I had started the claim through the card insurance and as the card insurers had made a payout on the card. A couple of problems here are the fact the card insurers (Avivva) have made no such payout to myself nor to my account bank or cc account. I have also made more than the monthly minimum payment since I have had the card and never missed a payment or paid late. Now I was wondering if it is standard practice for a bank to close an account because I was claiming on their insurance.

    Hi Didsyth,
It is unusual but it will say in your T&Cs if the insurance was of any use to you being self employed. I have never personally heard of anyone having their account closed because they made a claim. I think you need to see what exactly has gone on with this account and I would do a SAR (subject access request) how to do that and all the info on it is here http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...ad.php?t=14196

If you do need to get in touch with them in the meantime it is far better to write than use the phone, that way you have proof of what has been said.
