  • PPI Charges and Debt

    Hi All,

I am very new to this, so I hope that I can get as much help as possible.

My Parents took a loan with Halifax in 2005, They were sold PPI with the Loan.
My Mother was made redundant and made a claim on PPI which they some how didnt deal with or finalise, They got fed up chasing this. eventually they went behind in their payments and were harrassed by debt collectors and then agreed a monthly plan of 35 pounds. They also didnt realise that Halifax had removed funds from thier savings account to cover the arrears they had and then they were still in arrears with no savings. I successfully wrote to them and they have agreed to refund the PPI plus interest and reduced the outstanding on the loan. Is there anything else that I can do here to help my parents as they are in thier 60's.
any help or advice would be welcome.

Hi Sorry for the delayed reaction, I lost my post (did say I was new!!)

Yes they have provided a breakdown after the PPI was refunded.
The total amount they said was outstanding was 5K something less PPI refund 2970 and is now 2430 balance to pay.
I have the paperwork sent to me by Halifax.
          any assisstance would be helpful

Perhaps you could post the paperwork if you feel it may be relevant omitting personal details first.

Hi, do you mean Halifax did not deal with or finalise it or your mum? If it was Halifax does your mum have any proof of trying to claim on the redundancy bit of the PPI (which if covered should have paid out and then maybe no arrears!!).

Hi Guys (great I got the hang of it !!)
let me explain in a bit of a better way.
                  1) Loan Taken out with PPI
                  2) Mum Made redundant made a claim (Mum not the best of english speaking!)
                  3) they sent forms which duly signed and returned, Company went bust so she couldnt prove that she worked there, payslip she probably threw away,
                  4) she went to CAB and they gave printouts to her to send to prove company insolvent/bankrupt)
                  5) Halifax insisted on P60s P45s and wages slips
                  6) they passed to debt collectors, who chased them and my parents agreed a reduced monthly payment of 35pounds which they are still paying
                  7) I made the claim for PPI on thier behalf and Halifax promptly repaid this plus the interest. The balance was 5.5K reduced by 3k balance now 2.5K
                  8) I have now ask them to refund the charges which they levied of around 170 pounds plus the interest, and got the normal holding letter.

Apparently- the PPI states that they wouldnt have paid out for the first 30 days anyway

                  sorry for the long mail

I can scan the letter from Halifax Insurance which they recently contacted me if that would help.
