Increase charge on Passport account

I had a passport account which was 6pounds a month and one year contract. However after 10 month they increased the fee to 8pounds/month; I contacted them saying that I signed up for 6pounds not 8 didn't result in anything.
I wanna know if what they did was legal? For me as I had a year agreement I couldn't close my account and had to pay the extra fee for the next 2 month...

HSBC do a Passport Account which is designed for anyone moving to the UK or recently settled in the country.
