  • Question about a complaint against a bank, FOS, and getting professional advice.

I shall hopefully shortly be lodging a complaint and request for compensation with a bank, what the complaint is about irrelevant to this thread but the sum involved is in excess of £15,000. I fully expect the bank to reject the request for compensation and am preparing to file a formal complaint with the FOS.
I think I have read somewhere on the www that the FOS will NOT get involved if a solicitor has been 'contacted' concerning the complaint, does anyone know if this is correct?

Assuming it is correct and an honest question, what would constitute 'contact' with a solicitor?

As far as I can see the giving of verbal advice by a solicitor would be hard to prove and I am guessing that this actually refers to a solicitor taking action against the bank or writing to the bank, am I correct?

Now to be honest I am not considering asking a solicitor to give advice about this matter nor am I consider asking a solicitor to act in connection with this matter BUT I am considering asking an IFA to assist with the wording of the complaint as I suspect that my complaint will have to be very carefully worded.

NOW here is the reason for my post.

If what I think I have read (concerning use of a solicitor) is correct does anyone know if there is a similar restriction on consulting an IFA?

    Thank you

Without knowing the complaint then it is difficult to suggest what the problem is, what the solution is, and how the bank will handle this and what they SHOULD do. I know that sounds confusing.
