  • Discharged bankrupt bank account.

Anybody know which banks will give a discharged bankrupt a bank account that will enable them to pay direct debits and standing orders? He has a basic saving account with a cirrus card which allows him to withdraw money from cashpoints and nothing else.

As this is Scotland and he was declared bankrupt before the new laws came out, he was only discharged after 3 years. It has now been a year since his discharge.

Although he is not looking to borrow or for an overdraft, banks just don't seem interested. Oh, he also has a wage going in every month.

    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

There is a pre-paid card available backed by the Newcastle Building Society which enables you to run standing orders from the account and to use it as a debit card and a cashpoint card.

A similar card is available through quite a lot of credit unions.

Almost all of them are underwritten by Newcastle Building Society. Most other banks have backed out of this market.

I am a bankrupt in England and I have found cashplus gold pre-paid card a godsend. I beleive they have started a DD scheme but do n't know the specifics. The only account I could get was with the Co-op.

This is one a few handy links:

Bank accounts for bankrupts - before and after bankruptcy - discharged undischarged

A little tip if you go to Barclays for their basic account - get the forms and send them in yourself. If you apply through the actual branch itself you are MUCH less likely to be accepted.

As regards prepaid cards, if you have a mobile phone with O2, O2 does a free prepaid card as a 'perk' for its customers. It is the only organisation I know of that offers a totally 'free' prepaid card (I guess they make their money from your phone contract).

              Re: Discharged bankrupt bank account.

A friend of mine has just opened a MyCashPlus account and is very happy. It's prepayment, but gives him ability to 'bank' again.
"Although scalar fields are Lorentz scalars, they may transform nontrivially under other symmetries, such as flavour or isospin. For example, the pion is invariant under the restricted Lorentz group, but is an isospin triplet (meaning it transforms like a three component vector under the SU(2) isospin symmetry). Furthermore, it picks up a negative phase under parity inversion, so it transforms nontrivially under the full Lorentz group; such particles are called pseudoscalar rather than scalar. Most mesons are pseudoscalar particles." (finally explained to a captivated Celestine by Professor Brian Cox on Wednesday 27th June 2012 )

On a similar topic,if a bank account is closed at a bancruptcy hearing, does it stay closed forever?

santander basic account allows direct debits and standing orders to be paid from it and most electrictronic banking, but nothing other good about it
