  • DRO Help

    Hi

Need some help after racking up £29k worth of debt I’m finally seeking some help and in the early stages of applying for a dro.

I used step change to fill in my debts but they don’t do debt relief orders anymore they use a company called money wellness I filled in my stuff uploaded my forms and then rang them.

I have been told on the phone that because I have a car on hp I have to either get rid or transfer it to a family member.

I have tried to get a family member to take on the hp agreement but to no avail. They won’t progress it further my problems here is I know the insolvency service will class the car as a luxury however I have no money to buy a car outright so if I terminate the agreement I leave myself without a car and without a job as I need it for work and my parent who has documented mobility issues and on there last review has been told there mobility is seriously deteriorating over the next 5 years so isn’t going to get any better will be totally housebound and won’t be able to go to any hospital appointments without my car.

I have now filled in the expenditure forms with national debt line and about to ring them tomorrow has anyone got any advice what I can do. Also if I terminate the agreement it will put me in 47k worth of debt.

    Its stressing me out

    Thanks for any help

    Hi Paul87T

    Welcome to LB

I don't know if the following helps, 'The limits do not apply to a vehicle adapted to help with a physical disability', I don't know what adaptions are needed, but your parent might need adaptions to get in and out of the car.

    https://www.stepchange.org/debt-info...ief-order.aspx

I think you need to stress the following:

'I leave myself without a car and without a job as I need it for work and my parent who has documented mobility issues and on there last review has been told there mobility is seriously deteriorating over the next 5 years so isn’t going to get any better will be totally housebound and won’t be able to go to any hospital appointments without my car.'

Google 'Car aids for disabled', you might already be using some, run that past Step Change or National Debt people.
