Rossendales Letter Help

Hello i have just received a letter from rossendales saying they have been instructed to collect £1600 on behalf of credit union who claim i owe them that much but its only £800 and i have over £500 in savings in my credit union which now i cant get.

They say if i dont pay the £1600 in 7 days they will recover goods from my home, can anybody help me, i have no idea how to deal with bailiff's and dont have any money to pay them

Can you post up a copy of the letter? Or write it out? (personal details removed)
Is it a Notice of Enforcement?
Have you any idea how much (charges) Rossendales have added to the account to date?
Have they visited you? Or just sent letter(s) so far?
Do you know if this letter has been sent from Rossendales bailiff section or the debt collection one?

Do you have a CCJ about this? If so then Rossendales will be acting as HCEOs. If not then I would guess the letter is from Rossendales Collect who are just Debt Collectors.

I am not aware that Rossendales Ltd (bailiffs) enforce credit union debts. Are you sure that the letter is not from a company called Mid Rossendale Credit Union Ltd?

I have binned the letter because didnt want my partner worrying. I think it said debt collection on letter though and had 7 days to pay

If it's just Rossendales debt collection section, they have less 'power' than the bailiffs (who haven't much themselves ) - if anyone turns up, just don't let them in, they are not allowed to force entry. If you are at work and your wife answers then she should just say that you are out/not there and shut the door!

You say in your first post that you still have £500 in your credit union account (which you now cannot access). Is the account that you have with the Mid Rossendale Credit Union Ltd or a different company/

What should I do if my debt is passed to a debt collection agency?

Letters from debt collection agencies often mention court action or bailiffs. This is extremely unlikely to happen unless you bury your head in the sand and ignore the debts. If you read the letters carefully, you’ll see they talk about what might happen if you don’t pay the debt, not what will happen.
