Re: sadie786
I am in need of advice. Newlyn bailiffs have been threatening me since May this year. I moved from a property last july and was up to date with my council tax. I have never received any letters from the council or the bailiffs regarding any debt. Newlyn bailiffs have only communicated with me through text messages until yesterday one of them called to say they will be visiting my property today at midday...plz can anyone advise me..im stressed!!

Re: sadie786
Ok Sadie ... first things first don't worry!! The bailiffs cannot force their way into your house - you don't even have to open the door to them if you don't want to :tinysmile_twink_t2:
You need to contact your council and find out:
1. How many Liability Orders they have against you?
2. The dates they were obtained?
3. The addresses they were for?
4. The period of time each covers?
5. How much each one was for?
6. How much is still outstanding?
7. The dates they were passed on for enforcement?
Explain to the council that you were unaware of any debt when you left the property, and that you have had no letters from either the council or Newlyn.
How much have Newlyn said you owe?? You need to write to them and ask for a breakdown of the charges incurred up to date.

Re: sadie786
As it's a council tax debt, the council CAN talk to you - it's just that most of them seem to want to wipe their hands of it
I'd still suggest calling the council again to ask the questions:
1. How many Liability Orders they have against you?
2. The dates they were obtained?
3. The addresses they were for?
4. The period of time each covers?
5. How much each one was for?
6. How much is still outstanding?
7. The dates they were passed on for enforcement?

Re: sadie786
I'm going to move your thread to the bailiff forum - that way you'll get more advice from the other Beagles too :tinysmile_grin_t:

Re: sadie786
Solid advice from Kati. Try to get the answers first thing Monday morning.

I contacted the council yesterday and they said the matter is now with the bailiffs and couldn't help me..I rang a company who helps get bailiffs off your back but they said set up a repayment plan..!!
The other important thing is that many of those companies will charge for advice and help. You should NEVER pay for advice when there's sites like this and other reputable forums. There's CAB, National Debtline and many others, all of whom will give advice FREE.
