If the council accept your payment proposal then the bailiff action should be suspended/recalled (meaning no more visits) - if not, you could offer the EA the payments instead, halting further enforcement action and additional fees (if they refuse your offer you can complain to the council)
Debt is like any other trap, easy enough to get into, but hard enough to get out of.

EA? If you mean bailiff then OK, but wouldn't they want to enter the property before they even entertain setting up an arrangement?

I have already contacted Rosendales the enforcement company however they have said its in the hands of the bailiff

EA = Enforcement Agent (new name for bailiff) :tinysmile_twink_t2:

Do not let them enter the house - you have no reason to allow them entry. Tell them that you want everything in writing only (unless you can record it).

If the council doesn't accept your payment proposal, contact the bailiffs with the same thing. They have no need to come inside to discuss it with you, all conversations can be conducted through an open window or even a letterbox. Once they have been inside (even just to 'use the loo' or something) they are allowed entry into your property again.

I personally wouldn't sign anything without having a chance to read it thoroughly first :tinysmile_twink_t2:. If you have to deal with the bailiff, you could always print up a letter stating you are willing to pay by standing order (with prices and dates etc on it) and hand it to them through the window. Say you want written confirmation and do not let yourself be forced to sign anything without being 100% sure you agree to it!!!

OK thanks - im just crossing my fingers that the council come back to me first and agree the standing order arrangement although im not holding my hopes up for that one!

I will write up exactly what i sent to the council in terms of my proposal and see what they say. My only concern is that if all fails, they will end up coming back. Its just knowing when and what time!

                  just had this...

                  Dear Ms Price

After reading your email I will accept your offer of payment.

I have instructed Rossendales to accept your offer, and said that you will ring them today to make the first instalment £139.36.

Please contact them direct as a matter of urgency to set up the arrangement.

                  Regards
