  • Rosendales council tax

Hello i was wondering if anybody could help? Basicly i got myself in to arrears with council tax and they sent me a attachment to earnings letter wich was fine as i have recived one before and payed a 1000£ debt. Any way This was around two months ago the letter was sent. Today i recived three letters. One for 400£ wich was then 475£ for there fee. The next was 340 pounds and again another 75£ fee and one more for my previous adress of 32 pounds with a 75£ fee. i have rang the council today asking why it has come to this. it turns out because im on maternity leave they couldnt take any of my money. so i said to the woman well why couldnt you have informed me of this that way we could have set somthing else up but she replied they dont have to. i dont understand why my means have not been explored or why i havent recived any notice letter of further steps letter.instead jumping the gun and going straight to rosendales.im really worried i have a 4 month son and a 3 year old daughter my partner is not working and because i work part time he recives nothing at all. hope i can get some advice as my partner had a issue before and this sight helped him out big time mainly down to blue bottle hu took his time out and helped so much thanks alot Joanna

    Re: Rosendales council tax

Unfortunately, if you apply the letter of the law, your council & Rossendales have done nothing wrong. Morally, what they have done is despicable.

You should write a formal complaint to your CEO. Copy Rossendales in.

Outline your case as you have done in your post. Have a read of this document & quote whatever you think is relevant:

    https://www.gov.uk/government/upload...CT_arrears.pdf

Paragraphs 2.3 & 3.5 should definitely be quoted. Ask the council to provide you with the piece of legislation that forbids them taking money from someone who is on maternity leave.

Insist that these fees are removed and that Rossendales have purposely sat on the accounts in order to apply the higher fees. Also ask for recovery action to be placed on hold whilst this complaint is being investigated.
