    Can a Bailiff be registered to a company and working for another?

    Hi

    I had the displeasure of been dealing with Equita and one their bailiffs. In the meantime, they changed the bailiff in charge but the old one is now again in charge of the case.

    He appears registered under JS Collections on Northampton County Court, but he is representing Equita.

    Is is this legal?

    If the bailiff is self employed he/she can subcontract to as many companies as they can get work from, and JS Collection is the company he/she does most of the work for.

    It could also be possible that JS Collections is an individual who registeed as a Ltd Co.

    A bailiff who is an employee (not many left) would be moonlighting, not necessary illegal, as long as they declare any income from "private" work to HMRC. A parallel example could be a groundsman employed by Tarmac who does work for friends/family/neighbours at the weekend.
