Ok received a reply from the council and they seem to agree with the actions of the Newlyn Bailiff - but they mentioned that The car was actually sold at auction in May 13 by Council's Parking services contractor (which I strongly believe was Newlyn because I called up council phone and confirmed this, I was told Newlyn was the only bailiff dealing with related PCN since January 2013!)

On the other note I own a takeaway -

Sorry if I sound dim, Ainaedil, but are you saying that LB of Southwark has admitted the vehicle you purchased was sold at auction, by Newlyns, in May of this year, you bought it from a dealer whom, it would seem, bought the vehicle at the auction, and then Newlyn came round demanding money from you?

Call me a cynical ex-copper if you like, but there is something very suspicious about the vehicle and Newlyns involvement.

I was typing the same question when the phone rang.

Don't tell me that the previous sellers were A1 Environmental of Waltham Cross - specialists in disposing what they describe as 'ex-council cars'.

I would say it is bigger than a Rat, it is a bloody great big badger, so OP bought a car likely sold by bailiffs, who then enforce for PCN incurred by owner they snatched the mootr off for the debt perchance?

If that is, indeed, what has happened, BB, Newlyns will have more hassle than they want or can handle. The bailiff who extorted money from the OP might as well surrender their certificate to the court of issue as I cannot honestly see them holding onto it for much longer.

As for badgers, they are rather good at moving goalposts, according to Owen Patterson.:santa2:

Ron Davies was caught with his trousers down looking for badgers was he not?

Back to OP's dilemma perhaps FP has the vcorrect view, and indeed Screwlyn are up the creek without a paddle.

Unfortunately we really need to wait for the OP to clarify the situation before this can be taken further.

However it won't do any harm if people take the trouble to visit the A1 Environmental site and just look at the number of cars being sold without keys, log books etc and just how many of these ex 'council' cars are BMWs Audis, Mercedes etc.

But more than that, just look at the silly prices.

This place and its mysterious owner baldrick333 gives the impression of a conveyor belt of cars all being sold without any lawful authority.

As for being 'auctioned', the motor trade term 'knocked out on ebay' would be more appropriate.

My gut-feeling, BB, is that a lot of seizures of vehicles by private sector bailiff companies are suspect, if not, illegal. In cases such as those that appear on forums like LB, there can often be a very thin dividing line between legitimate seizure of a vehicle and illegal conduct.

Please could you post a link, F-P? This is all I could find on google:

                          http://www.we-scrap-any-car.com/about-us (A1 autos Waltham Cross)

Maybe it's not the same people? :santa_smiley:

Thats sorted then - pity the Pepipoo members got it hopelessly wrong, but thats history. No car which has gone through A1 Enviromental has ever been subject to a genuine warrant of execution, but whilst this conveyor belt of mysterious 'ex council cars' (give 'em credit for that tongue in cheek description) continues the MET clearly have much better things to do than investigate.

Why they have at least half a dozen unlawful joint civil operations with private bailiffs to deal with shortly - more bailiffs without warrants to help. Some on the 12th floor of Scotland Yard may feel that hounding ordinary people who have broken no laws is much higher priority than investigating what others might feel is the biggest organised car theft racket in London, operating not just under the noses of the police but with their assistance.

                                But I couldn't possibly comment.....
