One would certainly expect that "His Holiness" (sic) Francis 1st had, at some time, belonged to the church he now leads.

Like the more commonplace but more vulgar expression that rhetorically asks whether bears defecate in woodland, it is a way of stating that a given event has a probability not significantly different from 100%. :nerd:

        It's in his handle!
The Black rat (Rattus rattus) is a common (hence the accusation of being Pleb) long-tailed rodent of the genus Rattus (rats) in the subfamily Murinae (murine rodents). The species originated in tropical Asia and spread through the Near East in Roman times (another thing that we ought to thanks the Romans for, besides roads, aqueducts and public toilets) before reaching Europe by the 1st century and spreading with Europeans across the world.

A mutation of the beast now comes black leather clad, riding a motorcycle that looks like a battenbergh cake on wheels.

A skilled predator, totally ruthless with it's prey, but also known to be extremely generous in doling out tickes that can provide points for motorists who want to downsize from mechanically propelled vehicles to bycicles.

It's a dirty job, but someone got to do it!

The figure in this letter is the sum of their fees and charges! They can not send this before the visit from the bailiff, and where is the rest .... i.e. the balance owed to the Council.

And if the balance of the account at the time of the first visit was only £47.98 then the levy fee is wrong.

There are no dates on the paperwork that the bailiff left you, so it is impossible (for the bailiff) to prove when he was at the property.

To be honest I would send a letter to Newlyn with a cheque for £24.50, to cover the first bailiff fee, letting them know that the bailiff clamp and his padlock are "in this place" either at my property or at the local Police Station.

Then let the matter settle itself.

Does anyone honestly think the CPS will take anyone to trial over damaging a padlock?

I rather doubt it and, whilst the police response of "It's a civil matter, madam!" isn't quite accurate - they really meant they were too indolent to do anything about it - it is really de minimis.

But don't the woodentops have a duty to accept "lost property"?

Exactly - the lawful levy fee for a debt of £47.98 is only £24.50

Do you suppose that was deliberate?

I still believe it would be better to schlep it round to the cop shop and leave it there as "lost property".

Or you could just triple bag it in pink sacks and leave it by the roadside for the bin men.

Or you could take it to Barleylands - http://www.basildon.gov.uk/article/4...cycling-Centre

But would you really get more than 17/6d for it?

Another (more serious) suggestion is to take the clamp to the Council offices and leave it there.
If you can use it to clamp the Mayor's limousine, so much the better. msl:

                            Ok, Cleverclogs, thanks,
                            so you're going down the
line that the council instructed the bailiff, yes? so its down to them? ive just dragged the dame thing (all14Kg) down and back up 6 levels of Multi story carpark !!
Gathering all these threads makes me realise how people/companies try to blame someone else! i have just posted my ltr to council about a subject access request, including their logs regarding Newlyn and myself, it seems that they rang the bailiff involved, (she only gave the first name from notes) but its the first name of the man who called, -not the company on 22/11 so he new he was in the wrong! hopefully the logs will show a time!
                            Here's Hoping

Although, actually he knew it was clear on 10/10!! because he was shown the receipt and i told him verbally, so . . . is council at fault? for not informing him b4 22/11?? Mmm, the plot thickens!!

That might be the better idea, Cloggy. I saw a video on YouTube last night where someone took a wheelclamp and dumped it on a council's enquiry counter. From what the guy can be heard saying, it sounds like a bailiff decided to be an idiot, because the offences the guy is reeling off include Assault, Criminal Damage and Fraud.
Life is a journey on which we all travel, sometimes together, but never alone.
