  • New Member re council tax

Hi it has been suggested I say hello as a new member, arrived through Bailiff Zapper. I have quite a file of unpaid debts accrued whist the wife and I were apart and I was living overseas. Recently had a visit re council tax and a levy placed on an unknown car and a doubling of their fee’s so thought I would check out my status here. Basically, i guess form info here; the fees have gone from £1400 to close to £3000 because of this unknown car? If I am reading it correct they can go sing for that, and I should pay any amounts owed directly to the council; am I right?

Yes, basically. You have no obligation to deal with the bailiffs whatsoever. As long as you don't let them levy anything (most popular is a car as they don't have to gain entry, so keep it a few streets away) the only fees you'll incur are at most £42.50 for two visits.

Pay direct to the council on line or via automated telephone system. Is it just the one Liability Order for Council Taax, or do you think there may be others?

As regards the other debts, are there any other priority debts (rent/mortgage, electricity, gas etc.....) among them? If not, let's get CT sorted and deal with the others once you have something resolved. If there's any court threats or anything among them, they need dealing with now as well.

Put the bailiff and the council on Strict Proof as to the ownership car they levied, as in did they do checks first if not it is fee fraud under the guidelines if they are not removed.

Contact DVLA Data Access Unit and enquire if any enquiries have been made in respect of the vehicle the bailiffs have levied on during the last 180 days (approximately six months). Do not ask who has enquired, only if anyone has enquired. If DVLA tell you that there have been no enquiries made, at least you can head the bailiff and local authority off at the pass if they try to claim they checked with DVLA. Do this before asking the bailiffs and local authority if they have conducted checks into ownership of the vehicle.

If it's not your vehicle I wouldn't bother contacting DVLA. If the bailiffs have levied on the wrong vehicle, it speaks for itself. :beagle:

Are you and your wife still together and when you were overseas (how long for?) were you taken off the Council Tax bill?

What do you mean by unknown car?

And finally how did they get to add £1,600 worth of fees, can we have the breakdown please, how many liability orders are there and are they from the same Local Authority?
The Black rat (Rattus rattus) is a common (hence the accusation of being Pleb) long-tailed rodent of the genus Rattus (rats) in the subfamily Murinae (murine rodents). The species originated in tropical Asia and spread through the Near East in Roman times (another thing that we ought to thanks the Romans for, besides roads, aqueducts and public toilets) before reaching Europe by the 1st century and spreading with Europeans across the world.

A mutation of the beast now comes black leather clad, riding a motorcycle that looks like a battenbergh cake on wheels.

A skilled predator, totally ruthless with it's prey, but also known to be extremely generous in doling out tickes that can provide points for motorists who want to downsize from mechanically propelled vehicles to bycicles.

It's a dirty job, but someone got to do it!

Did the bailiff "accidentally" add in the date?
