a friend got home from work tonight to find a card from an enforcement officer through her letterbox re a debt belonging to her son, the son uses her address but doesn't live there, my friend rang the number and spoke to the man (who was very rude and demanding) explaining that the son doesn't live there, she was told that he (the officer) would be around tomorrow early morning - 6am - with a police officer to search the property to make sure the son is/has not been living there, is this allowed? Also she's worried that they will take her belongings when they turn up tomorrow in payment. I have no advice to give her, I don't know anything about bailiffs etc and would appreciate some help to pass on to her.

    Hi Catlyn,

Please try not to worry. This is your friend's son's problem, not hers. We have some members who are very knowledgeable about HCEO matters. If they're not on later, they will be here tomorrow. Meanwhile, have a read of this:

There is some critical initial advice in the link, so please make sure your friend reads it. :beagle:

          Hi Catlyn,

You do not say what type of debt this is, however.....

If the house is your friend's property or is rented to her, then the bailiff can not take any of the stuff in it, although they can ask her to show them her son's bedroom, and (with restrictions) they can take his stuff.....but....only if there is enough value to cover the cost of the warrant and the cost of removing.

I would help to have a Council Tax bill where the son is not listed on, fairly good proof that he is not there, and if it was me and I knew it, would give the bailiff the son's new address or at least his telephone number.
The Black rat (Rattus rattus) is a common (hence the accusation of being Pleb) long-tailed rodent of the genus Rattus (rats) in the subfamily Murinae (murine rodents). The species originated in tropical Asia and spread through the Near East in Roman times (another thing that we ought to thanks the Romans for, besides roads, aqueducts and public toilets) before reaching Europe by the 1st century and spreading with Europeans across the world.

A mutation of the beast now comes black leather clad, riding a motorcycle that looks like a battenbergh cake on wheels.

A skilled predator, totally ruthless with it's prey, but also known to be extremely generous in doling out tickes that can provide points for motorists who want to downsize from mechanically propelled vehicles to bycicles.

It's a dirty job, but someone got to do it!

My opinions are free to anyone who wishes to make them theirs, but please be advised that my opinions might change without warning once more true facts are ascertained
