Please can someone advise me on a problem with JBW bailiffs.
On Saturday morning a bailiff came to my house and clamped my car. He then knocked on the door and demanded £478.84 to release it.
The original fine was for unpaid congestion charge from April this year. I had challenged the fine but had not heard back and it had slipped my mind. I heard nothing more until Saturday.
The bailiff gave me a fee breakdown as follows:
pcn and costs: £187
letter fee: 11.20
levy/attendance fee:£57
other: £175
vat: £48.64
total: £478.84
He told me that "other" was a fee for removal of goods.
i argued with him for about 40 minutes and told him that I had received no notification (listen love they all say that) and to tell him he could only charge one fee as it was a first visit (no you're wrong) and also that he couldn't charge for removal of goods as he wasn't removing any goods (well I might have done).
I called the police but they said it was a civil matter and they wouldn't get involved.
in the end he threaded to get my car removed immediately and I buckled and paid him.
I'm sure this can't be right and really cannot afford to lose the money.
What can I do now?
or are the fees right?
Help greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
