  • Bullying of the vulnerable by Bristow & Sutor.

I wonder what advice I can be given on this one. On the 2nd July 2013 I was in my daughter`s house and read a letter saying my grandson had to pay a fine for parking on a double yellow line in November 2012. I would like to point out here that my grandson has a disability and is recently bereaved as his dad died in September 2012. My daughter is also a vulnerable person and has ME and suffers from depression, as well as having the recent bereavement. We all looked after my grandson`s dad for 3 months before he passed away with terminal cancer. My grandson`s girlfriend`s baby was also born on 26th June 2013. To take the pressure off my grandson I immediately paid this fine which amounted to £129.20 which is a lot of money and which none of us can afford. I couldn`t believe it yesterday when my daughter phoned me and said that the bailiffs Bristow & Sutor had been round and demanded another £355.20 even though she told them her mother had paid the fine.Tthey told her that my grandson would have to pay them for coming out as well! No notification had been sent prior to this but I do have a receipt from 2nd July when I paid the fine. Surely this is direct discrimination under the Disability Discrimination Act as both my grandson and my daughter have disabilities and are also extremely vulnerable due to their disabilities and the very recent bereavement we`ve all had. I would like to take this further as Bristow & Sutor should not be allowed to bully vulnerable people in the way that they have . It seems to me that because the fine was paid they thought through their greed they could obtain more money by bullying and unethical methods. I am ready to go to the courts if necessary and put this on the front page of every newspaper in the country and on the national news but am holding back at the moment and considering taking them through the courts for their harrassment. I wonder if anyone out there can help me legally ? Thankyou for taking the time to read this very valid complaint about the dreadful abusers in today`s society.

Do you know if B & S left a breakdown of their fees, including the parking fine? If not, the figure you have quoted is suspect. Also, did the local authority that issued the PCN send a reminder and a notice that a charge certificate had been issued? If not, someone has jumped the gun or done something they should not.

Thankyou for your reply. All I know is there was originally a letter threatening seizure of goods due to a penalty charge if the sum of £125.44 wasn`t paid. I paid £129.20 on the 2nd July as they said it was more if I paid with my visa. I thought then that it was extortionate but I never dreamt that these bailiffs would come to my daughter`s house to take away their possessions after this had been paid. There was no letter to say that anymore was owed `til the Bristow & Sutor baliliff gave her one yesteday demanding £355,20 which the letter stated included a charge of £170.40 for his visit yesterday. My daughter and grandson are vulnerable people and this scenario has worsened her depression.

Proof of this must be sent to the Bailiffs as they are not likely to know otherwise. What I will say which you may not like is that bereavement from last September will not count but if they do have continuing health issues then this may. For health issues you need a letter or similar from a medical professional.

I would have thought that it is the responsability of the bailiffs to make sure that the house they are trying to break into does not belong to vulnerable people who have disabilities that are registered and known to the council and the government and who have had va recent bereavement which is still raw as we looked after my grandson`s dying dad and was only 10 months ago. The bereavement is a lot worse when it is a young person and in this case only 41 years old. We certainly didn`t have anyone to help us with that. The bailiffs have overstepped the mark. The fine was paid and I consider their action to be corrupt and immoral. They should have done their research before they took an action which infringes human rights and puts those with disabilities at a disadvantage. Lowest of the low I would say and certainly futher action is going to be taken against them as they have infinged people`s rights and caused further sufferingv and upset to those who are vulnerable and already at rock bottom. Deplorable !

I have just contacted the relevant authority that issued the PCN. I paid Bristow & Sutor £129.20 on the 2nd July 2013 as soon as I saw the letter. The relevant authority have informed me today that the fine was £112 and that Bristow & Sutor didn`t pay this £112, out of the money I had paid Brist& Sutor on the 2nd July, until the 24 th July 2013.

I have found out today from Thameside Council PCN that the fine was £112 and though I paid £129.20 to Bristow & Sutor on 2nd July 2013, Bristow & Sutor didn`t pay Thameside Council PCN the £112 until July 24th 2013 . I have sent a FORMAL COMPLAINT about Bristow & Sutor to the Office of Fair Trading just now. Bristow & Sutor have caused unnecessary suffering and stress to already vulnerable people and should have their license revoked as they are in breach of the guidelines set out by the Office of Fair Trading Standards.
