  • Bailiff visit

Hello, I am new on here and I need some help/advice.

Last Friday I received a bailiff notice for unpaid council tax from a previous property, I'm aware I should have kept to a payment plan but I've been very stressed out lately and unemployed so basically my head's been everywhere. The total debt for council tax was for: £120 of which I paid £30 to the bailiff company, I then had lots of things going on and forgot to pay anymore. The next thing I'm aware of is the bailiff visit and my bill has more than doubled.

The bailiff threatened to take my car if I didn't pay the full amount by 4pm, I couldn't pay and have since offered to pay half the amount and the rest within four weeks he has refused. The company he works for won't speak to me they just say I have to deal with him, he won't listen. I have emailed the complaints team but in the mean time I'm scared that he's going to come back and take my things I have nothing of value really apart from my car but I need that for a new job I have just got.

I have tried to ask for a break down in costs as the debt is now £175 more than it was but I have had no luck with this, I have asked my council to take back the debt but they said once it's been handed over to the bailiffs they can't.

Please can someone tell me what to do, I feel so anxious and worried I want to pay what I owe but cannot afford this amount in full.

Have you written to them asking for a breakdown of the fees - they must provide this if asked? How old is your car and what sort of value would you put on it? Did he try to gain entry to your home? Has he left you a Notice of Sezure for the car?
