hi all, hope someone out there can help. i had a letter handed to my husband by one of marstons bailiffs so i called miss taylor as requested, they want £825 for non payment of a tv licence fine in full. we simply do not have that kind of cash with four kids and one of them training to be an olympian. she would not accept installments in any shape or form. she wants me to call her at 1pm tomorrow to see if i could borrow it but i cant myself and my husband are only children and our parents have passed away.any advice would be greatly appreciated on this matter thank you.

Re: distress warrent via marstons
Any fine imposed by a Magistrates' Court has to follow a specific procedure. It's set out, with a lot of other information, here:
http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...s-Courts-Fines
In particular if you ignore the original fine, you should then receive a formal reminder called a Further Steps Notice - did you receive this?
How much was the original fine for, as the amount they are demanding is astronomical?
Have a read of the link, and then come back with answers to the above, and any further questions you may have.

Re: distress warrent via marstons
Glad its given you some light relief. The bailiff to whom you refer is known to us. Are you sure the text message you received was from HMCTS, as they don't send text messages, only written documents by post.
Were you/your husband in court when the fine was imposed and were your's/his means (income) examined? Non-receipt of the Further Steps Notice (FSN) means the involvement of Marston bailiffs may well be premature or, even, unlawful. The amount being demanded is, I agree with Labman, excessive. Do you know how much the fine was, please? The most Marstons can claim is £300, made up of £85.00 Administration Fee and £215.00 Attendance Fee, which can only be charged if they attend your home. If they don't, only the Administration Fee can be claimed.
Have you spoken to the Area Enforcement Manager at the court that imposed the fine? This you should do tomorrow morning. If they are unhelpful, escalate the matter to the Regional Contracts Manager, who is more senior. If that proves unhelpful, then come back onto this thread.Life is a journey on which we all travel, sometimes together, but never alone.
