Im not too sure what Baliff it is as its for my friend, but she got fined for not having a tv licence she has now been visited by a baliff who has said she has to be £100 or they will bring the police to take her propertie. They are saying they have right of enter because it is a court fine, but how would a tv licence fine turn into a court fine. Are they saying this just to frighten her etc

Strangely enough a fine for not having a TV Licence is a Criminal Offence and will have been heard in the Magistrates Court - has this happened?

They've just said unless she pays the money, they will bring the police to enter her property as its from the courts they have the right to enter. She cant afford to pay it and is a single mum with two children.

Although it is true Court fines carry a threat of forced entry this very rarely happens and is usually reserved for persistent offenders who have many fines unpaid, they will also have an additional Order from the Court permitting them to do this.

Did she know about the fine, did she go to Court? Has she moved since the offence occurred? Has she received a Final Steps Notice from the Court prior to the Bailiff's involvement?
