  • new user after some advice

hi there, i have recently had a visit from a baillift, over council tax repayments.
i originally owed around £250- this got passed over to a debt management company (Bristow&Sutor).
I had a visit and naively let them in, i did so just to sort out a repayment plan. While here the person from the company
made a list of the valuable good i had within the property. After his visit i kept up the repayments of £25 per month, this was to
pay back the original debt plus charges wish im not entirely sure the amount comes to.
I recently missed a payment due to the stress and inconvienance of my property being burgled, i then receieved a letter from the baillifts saying they
had visited my home earlier that day. i then contacted the compant to apologise for my missed payment and the reason for this and give them a date-
which was next fridays date-they agreed. yesterday i then had a visit from a baillift saying i had to pay the debt in full which included another £130 charge
for the home visit - if i did not comply they requested access to seize goods- i refused because my young daughter was in the house. i then pleaded for more time
which he said you have till tommorow to sort out the full payment which is now £414.88.. i cannot afford this and am really frustated and upset mainly bacause
of the intimidation and the fact i only owe around £250 council tax. i know any more visits will result in yet more charges PLEASE HELP ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

Don't try to worry too much. Despite having allowed him entry previously does NOT give him an automatic right of entry next time he calls. Is it possible you can list exactly the goods he seized previously as described on the Notice of Seizure.

i still have a copy of the goods that are on the notice of seizure, im aware of what he can and cant take. Ive spoke to the baillift earlier
on the phone and offered to pay half the money tommorow if i can borrow it off a family member- he says this is fine but have to pay the other half by friday
which i have no means whatsoever of paying.

I asked for the list of the goods as Bailiffs are renowned for getting it wrong with what they can & can't seize.

Also ask for a break down of fees too as they are well know for charging fees that they are not legally entitled too, which they charge to people that they see as easy pickings.

i have told him that i have no money and no way of getting the extra money the baillift company has added on.
he has since called in the last hour saying he will be visiting my property later this evening with a locksmith to collect

Re: new user after some advice

Have you only paid the Council Tax to the Council? Have you paid anything towards the Bailiff fees?

With CT the Bailiff is paid first, any balance after that will go towards your outstanding debt.
