    Re: Council tax fraud

OMG that is scandalous!!! they should not be allowed to get away with imposing fines or the issuing of constraints of collections via direct through your salaires... It seems they have re written law unto themselves and in their favour and also imposed courts costs which are paid to themselves as NO COURT process has taken place at all!!!!! Therefore all those who have been "fined court costs" should have these re imbursed with immediate effect and also be paid compensation for the distress and undue harassment and collection of a said debt unlawfully!!! Interest should also be paid on the "Illegal court costs" collected and repaid to the consumer and anyone who has bailiffs and property taken should then sue!!!!!

I think the Press should be allowed to see this, the more people aware the more action can be taken against the government and councils for this illegal form of action!!!

Seriously Ploddertom??? First I heard was today!!! I cant help but think or wonder how long this has gone on for?? I mean they are imposing court costs for the collection of council tax or monies owed and yet NO court process has taken place, therefore they should NOT be allowed to impose the costs for something that has not taken place! People should be reimbursed all monies taken wrongly or imposed illegally!!!

          Re: Council tax fraud

Council Court costs are approx £3 per Liability order. Add to that the Councils "admin" costs which vary from Council to Council & also how they do it. Some charge for the "Hearing" costs + the "Issue" costs & others have a blanket cost which covers both, the Councils rack their fees up to say £120 and it is a nice little earner for them - a little known Revenue stream. Outlawgo can probably give better examples.

The paperwork you have seen is over 1 year old know and been seen on quite a few different occasions. It is challenging the Council to prove their costs that needs doing as I think again Outlawgo has some proof of his LA having a meeting to increase the costs charged purely for increasing income.

            Re: Council tax fraud

I honestly cannot believe what I am reading!! This is more than a YEAR OLD and still they are carrying on with same attitudes of screw the people and take what you can and don't give a damn attitude as to how it is done as long as they get the ££££'s.

Its a disgusting form of practice and should be stamped out and should have been as soon as it came to light!! Councils should not be allowed to write their own costs up and should have been set as "set" amount up and down the country. If what you say is correct £3 IS ALL IS COSTS FOR THESE ACTIONS TO TAKE PLACE....THEN THAT IS ALL THEY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO CHARGE. IF NO COURT PROCESS IS TAKING PLACE THEN THEY SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO INFLICT CHARGES FOR SOMETHING THAT IS NOT HAPPENING AND IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. If it is PROVEN they have BEEN using this METHOD of COLLECTION as a way of increasing their REVENUE which should NOT be allowed THEY SHOULD REIMBURSE WITH INTEREST and anyone LOST PROPERTY should be reimbursed THE FULL COSTS FOR REPLACEMENT ITEMS!!

Agree it is appalling, but as PT says, it is nothing new. Challenging them and pinning them down is a very lengthy process of endless FOI's.

                  Re: Council tax fraud

Passing Off, the process of a council issuing CT summonses and then hiring a court room to rubber stamp LOs, is illegal. If proven to be going on, both the council officers and HMCTS staff involved would face serious charges, including Misconduct in Public Office.

                      Re: Council tax fraud

Find an HMCTS and/or a council officer who is prepared to blow the whistle.
