  • Need help/advice

Hi, i am in a predicament and need some advice as i don't know the legalities of the situation i am in.

About 6 months ago i received a speeding ticket in the post. It was, if memory serves correct for the amount of £80. I filled out the information sheet with all my details with the intention of paying the fine when it returned, unfortunately i moved house in the meantime and completely forgot about the ticket. I didn't have my post forwarded so I received no further communication on the issue and never thought about it. Last week i bumped into the person that now lives in the flat i was in and he informed me he was getting bailiff letters regarding this ticket. He gave me a letter from "MARSTON GROUP" who now claim i owe £555. The letter is to claim goods to the value of the fine, also on the back it lists a number of extra charges that will probably have gone through by now so my fine could very easily have increased to the thousands. I understand that i have to shoulder much of the blame as it was my negligence that forgot about the ticket but it's easy to do when your moving house. I work in a minimum wage care job and there is absolutely no way i can afford this size of fine.
Is there any way i can pay the original fine? I'm not sure what my next course of action should be. I am getting worried

Any help would be greatly appriciated

Hi keef, there are some pretty exceleent people on here regarding bailiffs but I would say for my penny-worth that you need the amount of £555 justified??!! That's extortionate.
Hold fire for some more advice but initially, don't panic as I'm sure they would have to justify this amount and would have a problem doing so.

As I say there are several people on the board who can give you direction.

I would urge you to contact the Court and explain as you had moved since the offence was committed that you be allowed to make a Statutory Declaration to that effect. If granted this would wind he fine back to the original sum and wipe all Bailiff interaction out.

firstly my apologies for blatantly replying to a thread with another subject but can't see how to start a new thread on here.
here is an email i sent last night to a neighbouriAbout 4 years ago we purchased a new shed to sit on the concrete pad in the corner of our garden.Your tree has since overgrown our garden and has destroyed our garden shed. As is clearly visible from the attached photos.
The shed roof is also crushing the shed and has resulted in the windows caving in.
This is due to the weight of the trees branches on the roof of our shed.
We respectfully seek a new shed and an allowance to construct the replacement.
Things which we have stored in the shed have been damaged which we are prepared to forgo.
Obviously we also wish you to trim or remove the tree in question.
We thought it best to put this matter to you before pursuing the matter further.
                Your sincerely
Mr M D Gaskellng property which is a rest home.
                where do i stand basically?
                who is in the wrong?
                have i a case

Usually where someone has moved house, they will return you to the position you would have been previously.

There is one thing I did leave out and that is you have 21 days to do this since becoming aware of the fact therefore do it ASAP. Ask for either the Court manager or Fines Officer.
