I have just spoken to a very helpful gentleman at the Postal Order Team in Chesterfield, he informs me that my crossed PO was banked almost a week ago. The plot thickens

Did he say into which account it was paid?

I gave the gent the voucher ID number. He then told me how much it was for (£10). To whom it was made out to and finally the date it was banked.

You write the name of the recipient on the PO, The counter staff then put it through a machine that crosses it and turns it into a cheque, that's what I've been informed. The Postal Order Team have said they will post me all the details.

I think for the moment you need to play them along and act dull. Write back advising that the payment was enclosed in the envelope and are they sure it was not there on opening the envelope?

Give them a spade, let them dig.

Tell them that you meant to enclose a postal order for payment of the fee and ask them to look around the office to make sure it has not been mislaid.

Tell them its the postal order shaped thing!!

Then give them the number, amount and the date they cashed it... and charge them £10 a day for retaining the information

                          Re: You dirty rotten Liar

And pass up the opportunity for them to demand payment again, thereby committing a crime for which they can be prosecuted?

You definitely do not tell them they have cashed it.

Tell them you believe you placed it in the envelope and that they should have received it, and let them come back and tell you that they definitely did not - or hopefully, that they're very sorry, they did receive it and have encashed it.

Have you answered their question? If so what has been their response?

As you have proof the original request was delivered and also now have proof the payment has been encashed the clock is ticking. They do have 40 days in which to reply - this is not working days.

I've not answered their question yet, as the letter was only received yesterday and the confirmation about the PO was obtained today.
