  • Need help with Equita

I am having a problem with one of the bailiff companies called Equita.

Approximately a week before Christmas, I received a letter from Equita, stating that I owed money to them for an outstanding parking ticket. There was no other information on this letter, (amount etc) so I wrote back to them asking for some more information (amount owed etc).

I then this morning received a letter from them, asking for me to get in touch with them to arrange payment or make payment plan arrangements. I called the call centre number to try and find out how much this was and what it was regarding. This letter was dated 3 JAN 2012.

I tried several times to speak to someone, but just got an automated voice response machine, giving me a mobile number to call.

I called the number and was put through to a Mr Wright. He said he was a bailiff and that he was coming to take my car away on Monday morning, unless I paid him £361.84.

I asked if I could make arrangements to pay this on a payment plan, as I am a single mother of 4 children on benefits and that my daughter has a serious medical condition, which requires her to go to Milton Keynes Hospital every 2 weeks, which is why I really need my car. I am also disabled.

He told me that he cannot do that, and needs the full payment on Monday morning or he is taking the car.

I told him the letter I got which states I can do this is only dated 3 DAYS ago, which states I COULD come to this arrangement. He said he cant do that, and suggested I try and get the money, and asked if I could get it off anyone I know.

At this point, I was extremely upset and started crying.

I said I would try and borrow the money if I can, although I do not know if this is possible.

I told him that my car is probably not even worth that amount.

I don't know what to do. When he said I should have sorted this out before now, I did point out that I DID reply to the letter that they sent to me before Christmas, and I did ask for more information, as the letter did not have any.

I don't know what to do from here.

    Can you PLEASE help me.

Is this a magistrates fine or a fine in relation to a Local Authority pcn?
Did you receive any paperwork prior to the letter from Equita?
