Not a bad result. Just trying to decide whether to take the 25% off and pay it, or look into small claims court action against the other tenants. The risk with the latter is that the people involved will be very hard to find, unlikely to be able to pay, and may attempt to cause me issues. I think I would rather not make contact with them unless there is a very good chance of success! There was a very good reason I cut ties with them and moved away!

The risk is that for a case to hold up that I did not live there alone I cannot apply for the discount, so would be risking paying more with a relatively low chance of getting it back.

You cannot know just how much I regret the decisions I made when I was younger that led to all of this! Just say 'No' to drugs, kids!

It has to be your choice, but it sounds to me like you may need to take this one on the chin and put it down to experience. We've all been there and done things we wish we hadn't. Hindsight is a wonderful thing, so don't beat yourself up about it, nobody on here will judge you.

If you have the chance to take a 25% reduction, then my advice would be to pay it. As you say, the small claims route would be long and possibly costly with a real possibility of no end result in your favour. It sounds to me like the council are being reasonable - this doesn't happen with many councils so grab the offer with both hands

Everyone has stuff they wish they hadn't done, you're not on your own in that, but you're getting sorted now and that's the main thing.
