Then you take the money that you wish to pay the council and tell them to credit your council tax account.

The is nothing in the rules and regulations that say the council will not accept your money.

If you do decide to take this option make a clear note of what and when you pay the council, keeping all receipts. Make sure that it is paying off the debt rather than the current years CT.

If you want to go back to the Council and try to get them to take the debt back from the Bailiffs have a look here;- [ARCHIVED CONTENT] Department for Constitutional Affairs - Enforcement - National Standards for Enforcement Agents

That should give you some idea the rules etc although the information is dated.

If you go back to the Council try to get someone to talk to you who is 'in charge' ie the Principal Revenues Officer, who should have some idea about CT law. Very often those who man the phones or work at reception desks never have any clue about the 'rules'

The easier way to find out the name of the Revenues Officer is just to ask that question and relate the question to nothing else. I worked out several e-mail address by looking at the 'make-up' of other address ie e-mail addresses can be made up by firstnamedotsurnameatcouncil.co.uk or initialsurnameatcouncil.co.uk. By using e-mail if you use the 'read receipt' facility you will get a message back that they have actually seen your message

Good luck with you on-line payments. Bear in mind that will not stop the bailiffs so please ALWAYS be on your guard, whilst these issues remain.

If he's never gained access to your home then he can remove nothing no matter what he says or threatens.

Posts back earlier in this thread suggested that you can try to get the Council to take back the debt. No-one suggested this would be easy. A number of ways and methods have been suggested and it is not for me to repeat them here

There is nothing in the 'rules' indicating that the Council cannot take back the debt once Bailiffs are dealing with it. YOU have to persuade the Council that you are going to make payments to them and those payments will be consistent.

The issue of vulnerability is perhaps the biggest part of your armory, have you explained that to the Council? E Mail the Principal Revenue Officer (PRO) point out to that person your personal hardship (and the actual advice given to Bailiffs when presented with a vulnerable person). Ask the PRO direct questions ie "Please explain why you will not place a hold on Bailiffs Recovery Action". Detail the payments that you intend to make, ask them to confirm the rules why they will not deal with you and that they would rather you deal with the Bailiffs.

If you want to draft a note and need someone to have a look over it then post it here.

Use your week wisely, if you need further support have a good look around this site, many have done what you need to do.
