  • council parking fines

Hi, any advice. I got approx 80 parking tickets all of which i have ignored stupidly. the car was in my girlfriends name who doesnt even have licence. so far i have recieved 3 letters from marston from the 80 parking fines threatening me with bailiffs etc. can they break into my house. why should she pay if it wasnt even her as she didnt know about it. and should i got citizens advice bureau before other 77 go through the courts and i end up with more fines etc. i am tempted to pay nothing at all or £5 a week or just go to prison as 80 parking fines is probably £10,000 pound . i dont work or earn any money. also if i say it was me and mot my girlfriend will they stop hassling her as she knew nothing about it

Erm, is that a typo - 80 tickets? How on earth did you end up with 80 parking tickets?

Are you sure these are from the council?

yes i ignored them . had an ill son and there was no parking so parked on double yellow lines. they been accumulated over 3 years. just phoned someone and they said marston bailiffs cant break into my house. if all the tickets go through courts will owe £10,000. Once i got 8 or 9 i just carried on parking there. they are from my local council unfortunately.

It does say and they cannot break in. Bailiffs may only force entry for criminal fines.

            Penalty Charge Notices

A great many councils have opted to decriminalise parking and this means that the Police are no longer responsible for parking contraventions or infringements. For councils that have decriminalised parking, a Traffic Warden will be responsible for issuing parking fines under the Traffic Management Act 2004. These fines are not criminal fines and are enforceable only through the County Court. As such, the bailiff powers for enforcement will be similar to those for Council Tax problems.

I assume you have passed your driving test in which case you would presumably know it is illegal to park on double yellow lines if you are able bodied.

I can understand someone taking the risk once or twice when they can't find anywhere to park, but to continue doing it when you know you're getting tickets is just crazy. When you've done this intentionally, posting it on this site is a bit like saying I broke into a shop and robbed them of £10000 and now the police havve arrested me. Can you help?

I know this is a site for helping people, but you have shown such a blatant disregard for the law, you have brought this on yourself, knowing full well it was illegal.

The best advice I can give to help is stop parking illegally and start saving hard for the fine. This may sound harsh, but I honestly find it hard to have any sympathy with your situation and am amazed that anyone could do something so totally ridiculous. I think you've been watching too much "Only Fools and Horses!"
