  • Paying the Council Tax via the Bailiffs

Hi, I've just found out that a family member is paying off their Council Tax Debt directly to the bailiffs. However they are being charged an additional Debit Card processing charge of £1.50 each time they make a payment.

Is this a 'valid' charge and if it is not, where can I find the 'legal' information that I can use to tackle the Bailiffs seeking a refund.

    Thanks in anticipation

There is lots of information on the forum about this very subject. Search the bailiff forum with 'fraud' as your key word.

Thank you for your help and informative Forum.

Little was I to reilase that I was going to open such a long and complex process.

I believe, after reading various posts, that as my family member has paid several times amounts using a Debit card (including the card processing fee) then this is known as an un-prescribed fee and is therefore un-lawful.

Further reading of various posts seems to suggest that once 'proved' the whole amount of the debt will be returned. Does that include every component including the Council Tax as well as all the fees, costs etc?

      Thank you
